Burn-Out Syndrome (complete exhaustion, acc. to ICD-10 Z73.0)

Burn-out syndrome is diverse and individual in appearance and intensity. The disease develops over at least two to three years and is characterized by an imbalance of body, mind and soul. It also displays itself as an impairment of the body’s immune system, causing increased susceptibility for infections. If left untreated, the burn-out syndrome can lead to psychosomatic complaints and to a complete physical and mental breakdown.

Patients suffer from emotional exhaustion, where it’s hard to make progress, and the “batteries are empty”. Even minor stressful situations overwhelm them. Their physical and emotional reserves are exhausted. People are afflicted with sleep disorders, which affect the body’s regenerative ability.

The tired mind is no longer adequately able to respond to everyday issues. Wrong decisions with serious consequences accumulate.

Far-reaching negative consequences of untreated burn-out can drive the patient to financial ruin and lead to the loss of personal relations.

Those who are only committed to hard and ambitious work run the risk of exploiting all their physical and emotional resources and thus “burning out”.

Should you recognize in yourself more than three of the characteristics/symptoms listed here, you may suffer from Burn-out syndrome.
This disease can be treated, especially in the early stages, with “soft” therapies.

Stage 1: Performance
You work relentlessly.
feel indispensable.
forgo rest and relaxation phases.
are successful, but still unhappy.
ignore your own needs.
eat unhealthily and/or irregularly.
Stage 2: Compensation
You often talk about your work and your stress.
feel less and less joy at your job.
ignore illness and fatigue.
often use medication to stay healthy.
frequently use stimulants in order to reach your previous level of performance.
Stage 3: Psychosomatic Disorders
You are quickly irritated and react inappropriately.
often argue with your friends or your partner, and they turn away from you.
suffer from vague physical complaints, for which doctors can find no organic cause.
suffer from e.g., headache, abdominal discomfort, palpitations, dizziness, nausea, and/or tinnitus.
have problems falling asleep and/or cannot sleep through the night.
Stage 4: Collapse
You can only concentrate with difficulty.
are exhausted all the time, and recovery does not seem possible.
increasingly distance yourself  from your friends/partners.
hardly feel any more happiness or joy.
perceive even low demands as strain.
are “burnt out”

Consultation hours for patients suffering from Burn-out Syndrome:
Patients can schedule an appointment to discuss and clarify their symptoms and to create an individual treatment concept with their doctor/therapist
(all therapies are available on an individual basis or in combination):

  • Progressive muscle relaxation (PMR)
  • Autogenic training (AT)
  • Stress Management
  • Exercises for awareness
  • Classic homeopathy

Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR):
Deep muscle relaxation is achieved through a voluntary (active) muscle contraction and relaxation of certain muscle groups, which results in a state of deep relaxation throughout the body. Additionally, this method trains the patient about body awareness.

Autogenic Training:
This method results in deep relaxation based on (passive) autosuggestion. Like PMR, AT has proven to be particularly useful for treating stress and reducing pain.
Both methods are scientifically recognized relaxation techniques.

Stress Management
Stress management means finding ways and methods of minimizing or eliminating psychologically stressful situations, while at the same time strengthening personal resources and developing coping skills to manage stress.

Exercises for Awareness
In all the exercises, the focus is on the non-judgmental acceptance of what is currently perceived in the moment.  These can be physical sensations, emotions and thoughts. The exercises are about letting oneself into the “now” state, without focusing mentally.

Classic Homeopathy
A popular therapy, which involves a detailed interview to discuss physical and mental symptoms, followed by a subsequent analysis. This individual analysis allows choosing an appropriate homeopathic remedy to complete the therapy.
